When it comes to creating a password for your account there are many tips and techniques that you can use to make it more secure and harder for someone to break in. While we of course have measures in place to assist with blocking attempts to break into your account it is always best to ensure that you are using as secure a password as possible.

Here are some tips to assist you:

  1. Do not use a word found in the dictionary. This is the single most effective tip available.
  2. Do not use adjacent characters in a row. (ex. asdf) These can be found just as easily as a password that is found in the dictionary.
  3. Use both upper and lower case letters. (ex. ApSoidEW) Multiple cases help as it doubles the complexity of the password.
  4. Use numbers. Adding numbers gives more variety but do not add numbers with personal meaning like your birthday.
  5. Add Symbols. Symbols take your passwords from good to great.
  6. Do this for every password.

Getting relaxed when creating a password can be very easy to do and you may just create a user with the same password you use for everything. It is best to have a unique password for each location that requires one. Reusing passwords can be a risk as not all places that you register with encrypt passwords nor can they all be trusted to be secure.

A very secure password may look daunting and hard to remember but after you use it a few times the tendancy to remember it gets much easier.

Last Tip:

The "Random" password button in cPanel is an excellent tool to use when creating passwords. This will generate a password that is comletely random which will keep you from creating a password that fits into a pattern you may not even be aware you are using.
